City Partner Month - A Q&A with Jerome Fogel

June is City Partner Month here at the Center for Faith + Work Los Angeles, a time when we have the chance to pause and celebrate the individuals who help make our mission a reality year-round.

Recently the team at CFWLA sat down for a conversation with City Partner, Jerome Fogel, the co-founder of Fogel & Potamianos LLP. Known as a dealmaker and innovator in the legal community, he represents successful entrepreneurs, corporations, and sports and entertainment stars. He also serves as the go-to offsite general counsel for a number of small and lower middle-market companies.

We asked Jerome to describe his career, the way he sees God in his work, as well as the draw he had to CFWLA and call to be a City Partner.

Center for Faith + Work Los Angeles: How did you get involved with CFWLA (how did you get connected and what about it caught your attention)?

Jerome Fogel: I met CFWLA’s Executive Director Steve Lindsey at a FUSION event, and was able to learn about CFWLA and the faith & work history. Steve opened this faith & work world which became very helpful for my own work.

Center for Faith + Work Los Angeles: Tell us about your work. How do you see God working through your industry?

Jerome Fogel: I’m an attorney who helps businesses raise capital and buy and sell their businesses. I work with entrepreneurs, some are world-class, creative, and create a lot of value in our world.

I’ve seen the ways God is redeeming a lot of the problems in this world through my clients. They are often believers and often generous.

I have the privilege of helping the individuals I work with create a world that’s reflective of the values of God’s kingdom and to be able to see more of God’s creativity in them. Helping each client to trust their idea to the next owners if they do decide to sell. My work has also given me a platform to meet and labor alongside so many types of people, including non-Christians.

Center for Faith + Work Los Angeles: What inspired you to become a City Partner?

Jerome Fogel: CFWLA supports work and our city needs it. We have grown so much.

CFWLA supports work and our city needs it. We have grown so much.

Steve and the Center for Faith + Work team saw our potential. When we had our annual conference, and Steve saw that were bringing in amazing thought leaders and marketplace leaders and invested in the work we all are doing.

By being a City Partner, you’re pouring into something that has an impact. It gives you access to some really valuable learnings and incredible people.

The relationships and connections that have come from being a City Partner, wouldn’t have happened otherwise. Everything is relational, including being a City Partner.

This interview has been edited for length and clarity.
